Celtic star Kyogo reveals how Neymar shocked him

Kyogo Furuhashi has been an absolute superstar ever since arriving at Celtic. When fit and available, he has arguably been the best player in all of Scotland and played a major part in the Hoops’ Premiership triumph and Scottish League Cup win, by scoring a brilliant brace in the final against Hibernian. His contributions for the Glasgow giants surely would have helped his standing in the Japan national team as well.

Kyogo recently started in the game between Japan and Brazil, and his side gave a good account of themselves, losing a narrow 1-0 contest, thanks to a penalty kick from Neymar.

Celtic fans would have been interested to see Kyogo come up against some of the best players in the world and it appears that he was involved in a bit of a contest against Neymar himself.

It appears that Neymar decided to put Kyogo in a headlock in the middle of the match! As reported by the Daily Record, the Japanese international said:

“Originally, I wasn’t supposed to be marking him at a corner, but there was an extra player and so I went to mark him instead.

“I had to get close to him, but I was completely shocked when he put me in a headlock! I couldn’t move, I was completely stuck.

“He did it in a way so the referee couldn’t see it. I actually laughed about it later.”

Celtic’s Kyogo admits to being left shocked by Neymar incident

So, no harm done and a fun story to tell at the end of the day for Kyogo here. Interestingly, it is very possible that he could come up against stars of Neymar’s calibre next season as well, but this time for Celtic, as the Hoops are guaranteed a place in the Champions League group stage, thanks to winning the Premiership title last season.

Celtic are returning to Europe’s elite competition after an agonising gap of several years and as a result, one would expect those midweek nights under the bright lights of Parkhead to be very special for the fans as well as the players.

If Celtic are to be a success in the competition though, they will need Kyogo stay fit. That was the only hole in his game last season, as the Japanese star picked up multiple injuries through course of the season. Hopefully he will be able to avoid them this time around.
