Injuries have proven to be Celtic’s Achilles’ Heel this season. Several of the club’s players have gone down with one injury or another throughout the course of the campaign but that problem has been further magnified in the month of December. At this point of time, a large number of the club’s stars are on the sidelines and it has left Ange Postecoglou scrambling for options.
The recent 0-0 draw vs St Mirren was the perfect example of the lack of options that Celtic have right now. While chasing a goal in that game, Postecoglou did not have a genuine goalscorer to bring off the bench and could only throw on Liam Shaw, Josip Juranovic and Greg Taylor.
That is far from ideal. And with games coming thick and fast, it does not feel like the situation will improve a lot in their upcoming game against St Johnstone, scheduled for Boxing Day.
It looks like Celtic are set to miss at least seven of their players on this occasion, although the number could turn out to be even higher. As reported by The Scotsman:
David Turnbull, Jota, Albian Ajeti (all hamstring), Giorgos Giakoumakis (knee) and James Forrest (knock) are out along with Karamoko Dembele (ankle) and Christopher Jullien (knee).
Celtic set to miss at least seven players vs St Johnstone
It is safe to say that Celtic will have a mountain to climb when it comes to getting a result against St Johnstone.
The only hope that they have been provided amidst all this is the fact that Kyogo and Joe Hart have not been ruled out yet and one can only hope that they are fit enough to feature against St Johnstone.
In this regard, the winter break is starting at a very good time for the Hoops. It will give time to several of their players to recover from their current injuries and hopefully be back on the pitch when they face Hibernian on January 17.
