Celtic told 29-goal striker is good enough amid links

Celtic need to add to their options up top this January. Kyogo has done well once again but he is not scoring as frequently as he was last season. On the other hand, Oh Hyeon-gyu has been inconsistent as well and is not at the level required to start for the Hoops right now. There is also the AFC Asian Cup coming up early next year.

Both Kyogo and Oh might end up getting selected by their respective national teams. If that turned out to be the case, Celtic would be without a striker for a significant length of time.

That is the last thing they need, especially when they have not been at their best at any point this season so far. So, do not be surprised to see a striker being signed in the January transfer window.

Quite a few players have been linked with Celtic in this regard. Lawrence Shankland of Hearts and Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby have been brought up as potential targets. But Bojan Miovski is a name that has started to do the rounds of the rumour mill as well after a great start to the season despite Aberdeen’s struggles as a team.

Celtic told 29-goal striker is good enough amid links

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Barry Ferguson said about Miovski while speaking on Go Radio:

“He has grown on me.

“I like him. Good movement. It’s a brilliant finish (against Rangers) against a goalkeeper who has hit top form.

“His overall game as well. I wasn’t too sure of him. But he is clearly a goalscorer and they are hard to find.”

On Miovski potentially going to Celtic, Ferguson said:

“He has shown that he is good enough. 11 goals for an Aberdeen team that has struggled this season. He is definitely an out-and-out goalscorer. Decent link-up play as well. He is also an international.”

Miovski has certainly proven himself as a goalscorer since arriving at Aberdeen. He scored 18 goals for them over the course of the previous campaign. He already has 11 to his name this time around. That is as many as Kyogo and Oh have managed combined. And one cannot forget that the Dons are not having a good season by any means.

Anderlecht consider making offer for Celtic standout in January

Celtic have not had the greatest campaign till now. They were eliminated early from the Scottish League Cup and while they do lead the Premiership, their performances and results have been somewhat inconsistent. Almost half a season on, it feels like the Hoops are still finding their feet under the management of Brendan Rodgers and have never really gotten out of second gear.

There have been some players who have stood out amidst this though. Liam Scales has surprised a lot of people since coming into the first-team fold and establishing himself as a starter.

Not many people would have expected Scales to be a starter at the start of the season. He seemed like someone who was more likely to leave the club than to feature.

That kind of form has caught the eye of teams around Europe. As reported by Football Scotland, Anderlecht scouts have watched Scales extensively and they are considering making an offer for him in the January transfer window.

Anderlecht consider making offer for Celtic standout in January

Scales is entering the final 18 months of his contract at Celtic Park. The club have handed out new deals left, right and centre this season so far. They must make sure that the Republic of Ireland international extends his stay at Parkhead as well.

Scales has become a key player in Rodgers’ team. He has kept the likes of Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke out of the starting XI. Letting him go at this point would be a step in the backward direction.

Of course, we all know that Celtic are pretty much always open to letting players go as long as the right offer is on the table. It just does not feel like Anderlecht would put in that kind of a transfer bid based on Scales’ form over the last few months though.

Serie A club want to sign Celtic player amid contract worry

As Celtic fans hope for more quality players arriving there could be a problem with others heading for the exit door. It seems pretty clear that Brendan Rodgers wants to make the size of the squad more manageable over the next couple of transfer windows and departures are expected. But there is a risk of the wrong footballers moving out.

Of course, that is a subjective term. Rodgers will have his views on who can leave and who needs to remain in his squad. When it comes to one player in particular, it has become difficult for fans to judge where he fits in.

Rocco Vata definitely has potential as a centre-forward, he is proving that with the B team and with the Republic of Ireland U19s as well. He has only had limited opportunities with the Celtic first team so far though.

Vata has made just four senior team appearances for the Hoops. None of them have come under the management of Rodgers.

Serie A club want to sign Celtic player amid contract worry

Vata’s contract at the club is up at the end of the season, so this is quite a significant time for the player. There are constant rumours of other clubs being interested in signing him and understandably so, considering his form at the youth levels.

According to the Daily Record, Frosinone are the latest Italian side to join the race to sign Vata. They watched the youngster when he was away with Ireland under-19s and were impressed. Teams like Torino and Nottingham Forest are believed to hold an interest as well.

It is curious why Vata has not featured for Celtic this season so far despite his great form for the B Team. Does Rodgers not believe that he is ready to play for the senior team? Or is it more to do with his contract situation? Let’s see what happens.

Tottenham Hotspur step up bid to sign Celtic-linked player

Tottenham Hotspur made a fantastic start to the season under the management of Ange Postecoglou. With Harry Kane leaving the club in the summer for Bayern Munich, most expected them to struggle. Instead, they appeared to be putting up an unlikely title challenge and were sitting atop the Premier League table not too long ago. That was until recent injuries. And now, it looks like they are stepping up their bid to sign a Celtic-linked player.

Tottenham Hotspur have lost three games on the trot as key players like James Maddison, Micky van de Veen, Ivan Perisic and more are out injured. So, it is expected that they will strengthen in the winter transfer window.

Postecoglou seems to be aiming for a reunion with one of his best signings for Celtic. That is none other than Jota, who has had a nightmare spell at Al-Ittihad so far.

As reported by The Times, Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in Jota. The Premier League club are looking for cover on the wing after injuries to Manor Solomon and Perisic. The Portuguese winger is available on loan.

Tottenham Hotspur step up bid to sign Celtic-linked player

The chance to reunite with Postecoglou is expected to interest Jota. He has played the best football of his career, and by far, under the management of the Australian, during their two seasons together at Celtic Park.

Interestingly, Jota has been linked with a return to Celtic as well. It remains to be seen how things play out.

Celtic do appear to be lacking a bit of spark up top at the moment and could do with a talent like Jota.

Celtic boost in race to sign £11 million Real Madrid player

Celtic need to sign a goalkeeper in the near future. It is quite clear that Joe Hart is not the long-term solution between the posts. The Englishman’s performances have been criticised lately. Also, he is set to turn 37 years of age before this season comes to an end. So, while he has done a decent job since arriving in the summer of 2021, sooner or later the Hoops will need to bring in his successor.

Some interesting names have been linked with Celtic in that regard. One of them is Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid.

Lunin has been at Real Madrid for several years but has never really gotten a chance to play consistently. When Thibaut Courtois got injured earlier in the season, many thought he would take the Belgian’s place in the starting XI.

Instead, Kepa Arrizabalaga was signed on loan from Chelsea and immediately placed as the first-choice goalkeeper. Recently, the Spaniard was injured as well and Lunin has done a fantastic job in his absence. But unfortunately for him, his form is unlikely to be rewarded a run in the starting XI.

Celtic boost in race to sign £11 million Real Madrid player

As reported by MARCA, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said:

“If Kepa is there, he is going to play.”

He went on to add regarding Lunin:

“The important thing is that Lunin has been ready when Kepa was injured, I think he will return in the game against Granada.”

So, it seems that Lunin will remain the cover option for Real Madrid, despite his good performances. That reduces his chances of remaining at the club further, with his current contract set to run out next summer. It is believed that the 24-year-old will be seeking a regular starting spot, wherever he ends up.

The thing is, Lunin has actually done well when given some chances. Over the last three games, since Kepa’s injury, he has conceded just once. He even saved a penalty against SC Braga. So, someone like him could be a solid addition for Celtic, especially if available as a free agent.

Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri makes fantastic Celtic claim

By now, Celtic fans have accepted that Brendan Rodgers’ side are most probably not going through or even finishing third in their group in the UEFA Champions League. It would be a positive step to get a win in the competition though. It has been quite some time since the Hoops won at this level.

Their last win in the Champions League was against Anderlecht. It was during Rodgers’ first spell as manager of the club. It has really been that long.

Their two remaining games in the competition are against Lazio away in Rome and then Feyenoord at Parkhead. Up next is Maurizio Sarri’s team.

In their previous meeting, Celtic were the better team between the two to be very honest. But they just could not find a second goal, with a good strike from Luis Palma being ruled out late in the match. Ultimately, Pedro would grab a 95th minute for Lazio against the run of play.

Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri makes fantastic Celtic claim

Sarri is not taking Celtic lightly at all and only had positive things to say about Rodgers’ team before they end up meeting in the Champions League in midweek. As reported by Football Scotland, the Lazio manager said:

“Celtic are a good team, they have good rhythm, decent technical qualities. They are not an easy team to beat.”

Getting praise from opposition managers is fine and the Hoops have played some pretty good football along the way too. But it is time to convert those performances into results. At some point, they will have to, if they are to make any kind of progress in Europe.

The game against Lazio might be the perfect opportunity to do that. Sarri’s side have well and truly struggled this season. They have lost two and drawn one of their previous three Serie A games. Perhaps their best results this season have come in the Champions League, having registered wins over Celtic and Feyenoord.

Celtic tipped to go for 28-year-old Premiership striker

Celtic fans breathed a sigh of relief as the Rangers dropped points at the weekend against Aberdeen. In fact, it took a late penalty for them to even come out with a draw from the game. That means that the Hoops will maintain their strong position at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

That does not mean that they should overlook the clear issues in the team right now. One of the major ones is in front of goal.

Celtic’s goal rate has dropped significantly since last season. They scored 3 goals every league game on average in the previous campaign. In comparison, they are managing just 2.5 this time around, a difference of half-a-goal every time they take to the pitch.

Also, this team starts to look out of ideas when up against resolute defences and certainly could do with more players capable of scoring consistently. Then comes the matter of the upcoming AFC Asian Cup, which might led to Kyogo and Oh Hyeon-gyu being unavailable for a significant number of games.

Celtic tipped to go for 28-year-old Premiership striker

All things considered, Celtic are expected to sign another striker in January. And Michael Stewart seems to be a big believer in Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Stewart said while speaking on The Scottish Football Podcast:

“If you took Lawrence Shankland out of the Hearts side. I would be concerned for Hearts. He is that big of a talisman. He is starting to hit some real form. His all round game has improved dramatically over the last couple of years.”

He further went on to add:

“For me, you look at big Oh at Celtic (compared to) Lawrence Shankland. Personally, (I would go for) Lawrence Shankland. He scores goals.”

Oh has been scoring some goals for Celtic lately. But overall, he has not been very consistent in front of goal for the Hoops since arriving earlier this year from Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

Someone like Shankland could be a solid addition to this team. He has quite a bit of experience of playing in the Premiership and a proven record of scoring consistently as well. That being said, would Hearts be open to their captain leaving in the middle of the season.

£7.5 million Mathias Kvistgaarden to Celtic transfer update

Celtic need to sign a striker in January. On one hand, we have seen the club struggle for goals in some games this season. When the opposition puts up a resolute defence, the Hoops do not appear to have a lot of answers other than Kyogo, Matt O’Riley or Luis Palma. On the other hand, there is the AFC Asian Cup coming up early next year as well.

Both Kyogo and Oh Hyeon-gyu could be selected by their respective national teams. If that was to happen, it would leave the Hoops without a recognised striker.

So, under ideal circumstances, Celtic would sign a striker who could come in and immediately make an impact up top. But knowing the club’s transfer policy, it is more likely that they would make a ‘project’ signing.

Mathias Kvistgaarden is someone Celtic have been linked with in recent times. He is believed to be rated at a transfer fee of around £7.5 million by Brondby and there seems to be a lot of competition for his signature as well.

£7.5 million Kvistgaarden to Celtic transfer update

As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic are back on the trail of Kvistgaarden and are ready to return with an improved offer in January. Clubs from England, Germany and France appear to be interested in the Danish youth international as well.

Kvistgaarden has not exactly been scoring goals for fun even though Brondby are the second-highest scorers in the Danish league. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 5 goals and provided 6 assists in 18 appearances this season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been eyeing Celtic superstar

Ange Postecoglou made the move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and it was only a matter of time before the Australian was linked with a reunion with some Celtic players. The manager enjoyed a lot of success at Parkhead, even though he was at the club for just two seasons, and won five trophies including a treble days before leaving.

Postecoglou has been doing great at Tottenham Hotspur as well. But their form has dipped considerably with key players like James Maddison and Micky van de Ven picking up injuries. The likes of Ivan Perisic, Richarlison and more are out as well.

So, the club are expected to strengthen in the January transfer window. And they have been linked with a few Celtic players lately.

One of them is Kyogo Furuhashi, who was pretty much Postecoglou’s first signing at Celtic and one who set the tone for his run at Parkhead. Pulling off a move for the Japanese forward, especially in January, will be difficult though.

Tottenham Hotspur have been eyeing Celtic superstar

As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones said regarding the situation involving Tottenham Hotspur and Kyogo:

“I don’t think so, not in the immediate future. I think that’ll be tough for Tottenham to do in January. We know he is a player they’ve had their eye on, but Celtic don’t want to lose him. So, I think the likelihood around that one midway through the season will be unlikely. From a Celtic point of view, they’ll continue to be fully focused on the fact that he’s staying at the club, and they won’t worry about it.”

Kyogo signed a long-term contract extension with Celtic not too long ago. He also seems to love life at Parkhead and is one of the most popular figures amongst the fans. So, the club are not expected to be under any pressure to part ways with the Japanese international anytime soon.

Letting Kyogo go, especially in the middle of the season, would be almost unthinkable. He might not be having his best campaign but he is still Celtic’s most decisive player and by some distance. After all, he has scored against teams like the Rangers, Atletico Madrid and Lazio.

John McGinn claims he spoke to Celtic players about manager

Most Celtic fans will remember how the club missed out on the opportunity to sign John McGinn some years back. The Scot grew up supporting the Hoops but a move to Parkhead failed to materialise even though it had looked close and he ended up moving down south to join Aston Villa.

McGinn has risen through the ranks at Aston Villa and is the Premier League club’s captain right now. And he must be delighted with how things are turning out for them this season, as they are challenging for a Champions League spot.

Another team who are doing brilliantly are Tottenham Hotspur. Ange Postecoglou has exceeded all expectations since arriving and McGinn clearly is not one who took the early doubters seriously.

When Postecoglou had arrived at Tottenham Hotspur, there were many who had doubted him and downplayed the success he had achieved at Celtic. But as reported by the Daily Record, McGinn said to the Daily Mail:

“But I had spoken to the Celtic players and my brothers who had played against his teams and they spoke very highly of him.

“Tottenham are exciting to watch. Their home game with Chelsea recently was the wildest 100 minutes of football I’ve ever seen. I have never met their manager but I only hear good things about him. It’s similar to the way the manager is thought of here (Unai Emery). They have a clear identity of how they want to play and they stick by it.”

McGinn claims he spoke to Celtic players about manager

It is safe to say that Tottenham Hotspur have impressed everybody this season and Postecoglou has established himself as one of the top managers in world football. That will come as no surprise to Celtic fans, who watched his side over the past couple of seasons.

But Tottenham Hotspur have been dealing with a bad run of form lately and have lost three on the trot. A large part of that is down to the fact that they are now missing some of their best players through injuries and this downturn in results was somewhat expected.

Tottenham Hotspur were leading the Premier League table not too long ago but now it looks like that unlikely title challenge is already over. Nobody can control circumstances though. It is now about continuing to move in the right direction until the likes of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven return.
