John McGinn claims he spoke to Celtic players about manager

Most Celtic fans will remember how the club missed out on the opportunity to sign John McGinn some years back. The Scot grew up supporting the Hoops but a move to Parkhead failed to materialise even though it had looked close and he ended up moving down south to join Aston Villa.

McGinn has risen through the ranks at Aston Villa and is the Premier League club’s captain right now. And he must be delighted with how things are turning out for them this season, as they are challenging for a Champions League spot.

Another team who are doing brilliantly are Tottenham Hotspur. Ange Postecoglou has exceeded all expectations since arriving and McGinn clearly is not one who took the early doubters seriously.

When Postecoglou had arrived at Tottenham Hotspur, there were many who had doubted him and downplayed the success he had achieved at Celtic. But as reported by the Daily Record, McGinn said to the Daily Mail:

“But I had spoken to the Celtic players and my brothers who had played against his teams and they spoke very highly of him.

“Tottenham are exciting to watch. Their home game with Chelsea recently was the wildest 100 minutes of football I’ve ever seen. I have never met their manager but I only hear good things about him. It’s similar to the way the manager is thought of here (Unai Emery). They have a clear identity of how they want to play and they stick by it.”

It is safe to say that Tottenham Hotspur have impressed everybody this season and Postecoglou has established himself as one of the top managers in world football. That will come as no surprise to Celtic fans, who watched his side over the past couple of seasons.

But Tottenham Hotspur have been dealing with a bad run of form lately and have lost three on the trot. A large part of that is down to the fact that they are now missing some of their best players through injuries and this downturn in results was somewhat expected.

Tottenham Hotspur were leading the Premier League table not too long ago but now it looks like that unlikely title challenge is already over. Nobody can control circumstances though. It is now about continuing to move in the right direction until the likes of James Maddison and Micky van de Ven return.
