Celtic star reacts to Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton leaving

It was expected to be a transitional campaign for Celtic. But thanks to the outstanding job done by Ange Postecoglou and the players, the Hoops managed to win both the Scottish League Cup and the Premiership title, just a season after finishing 25 points behind the Rangers and trophyless. Aa remarkable turnaround, especially considering the circumstances.

Yet, it was not all rosy at the end, with Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton, two of the club’s longest serving players, deciding to depart this summer.

Both Rogic and Bitton were believed to have deals the summer of 2023, making their exits this time around surprising. There was a bittersweet feeling as they said goodbye to the Parkhead faithful, sadness at seeing them leave but happiness that they could go out on the high of being champions of Scotland.

Both of them had spent almost a decade at Celtic, having joined back in 2013. Naturally, in the final game of the season, against Motherwell, the supporters gave both players an emotional farewell. Now though, the focus has to shift towards to replacing their quality and experience in the squad.

As reported by the Daily Record, Greg Taylor heaped praise on the departing Celtic duo, while also admitting that they will be big misses, as he said:

“It was sad, Tom was quite emotional. He got the send-off he deserved.

“He has been a great servant of the club. He provided massive goals and massive performances.

“Nir just leads by example. Again, he’s one of the senior boys.

“He has been vice-captain this year and taken on a lot of responsibility and done really well. His last few performances have been top class.

“They will be two big misses around the place, but I’m sure they will do well wherever they end up next.”

Taylor himself has improved considerably this season and is already considered a leader in the dressing room. At the same time though, the left-back could be left looking over his shoulder come next season, with the Hoops expected to make an addition in the position over the summer. Rumours regarding a potential move for Hammarby’s Mohanad Jeahze refuse to go away.

That has to be expected though with UEFA Champions League group stage football guaranteed. And that is where experienced players like Rogic and Bitton might end up being missed the most.
