Former Celtic star makes incredible Jose Mourinho claim

There are some former players that Celtic fans are not fond of, even though they might have performed well during their time at the club. Paolo Di Canio is one such player, who is not remembered fondly by the club’s supporters, mostly because of off field reasons.

And it looks like Di Canio has no intention of staying away from controversy, and his latest target is AS Roma manager.

Mourinho had a rough start at AS Roma but has managed to turn things around at the Italian club in recent months to the point where they appear to be making a late charge for a top four spot in Serie A. They are also in the Europa Conference League semi-finals. And he deserves a lot of credit for that.

Not for Di Canio though, who it is worth mentioning came through the youth ranks at Lazio, AS Roma’s rivals. As reported by the Daily Record, the former Celtic player said about Mourinho:

“Look, Jose Mourinho is a myth. They say the stadium was full, but that was only because they gave tickets away at 5 Euros.”

He also added:

“Jose Mourinho demands praise for reaching the semi-final of this competition, yet we criticised Inter Milan for losing to Liverpool, who will probably win the Champions League.”

One of the greatest managers in the history of the game, it is safe to say that Mourinho has been to the mountain top multiple times. And while the last few years have not been too kind to him as a manager, he still has got it, and has shown that at AS Roma.

This was not a side that was challenging near the top of the Serie A table but could end up doing that next season, if they continue to progress like they have under the Portuguese manager over the course of this campaign. It will be very interesting to see how far Mourinho can take this side.
