Rangers suffer double injury blow before facing Celtic

Celtic were handed a major injury blow in the game against St Johnstone as Giorgos Giakoumakis was forced off the pitch in the first half after picking up an injury. The Greek striker has become an integral part of Ange Postecoglou’s team since the start of the year and as a result, if he has to spend any significant length of time on the sidelines, it would be a massive worry for the Hoops.

At the same time, the Rangers were not able to escape this game week unscathed either, with a couple of their players getting injured.

As reported by The Scotsman, John Lundstram and Filip Helander were both injured in the Rangers’ game against St Mirren.

Celtic are set to face the Rangers next weekend, in the Scottish Cup semi-final. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have a game in midweek as well though as they will take on SC Braga in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie. They lost the first leg 1-0.

Rangers suffer double injury blow before facing Celtic in the Scottish Cup

Other than the two injury blows against St Mirren, the Rangers have also had Alfredo Morelos ruled out for the rest of the season. On the other hand, it does not feel like either Giakoumakis or Kyogo would be in the position to start in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

As a result, it would be fair to say that both teams have their fair share of injury problems heading into the fourth Glasgow Derby of the season.

Celtic must be the side with confidence on their side though, having won the last two times they have faced the Rangers, 3-0 at Parkhead and 2-1 at Ibrox. Form often goes out of the window in these games though. Thus, it will be interesting to see how things transpire at Hampden Park next weekend.
