Celtic manager explains why he will never change his style

When Celtic appointed Ange Postecoglou as the club’s manager in the summer, a lot of eyebrows were raised and many believed that the club had taken a very risky decision. And it is not hard to see why. The Hoops had been linked with a move to bring in Eddie Howe for months but when it failed to transpire, they went for the then Yokohama F. Marinos manager.

Not many knew of Postecoglou in Europe though despite his considerable success managing in Australia and Japan.

After a rocky start to life at Parkhead, Celtic have made tremendous progress under the management of Postecoglou. They have already lifted the Scottish League Cup title and are leading the Premiership race by three points at the moment. They are also in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, where they will face the Rangers.

One of the things that Postecoglou has brought to Celtic is his distinct system of football, something that his teams have been known for playing throughout his managerial career. And as reported by Optus Sport, he revealed why he is not looking to change his style:

“Well, I don’t see any reason why I should (change), because I’ve had so much success,” Postecoglou explained.

“I mean, I managed South Melbourne to two championships. I managed Brisbane to two championships. Melbourne Victory, I only had them for a year, I got them into the Champions League. I won an Asian Cup, got us to a World Cup. I won a championship in Japan.

“I’d be absolutely dumb to change my approach, even though that’s what people have constantly said to me.

“But what I’ve tried to explain to people is that I don’t do this because I want to prove something, oh, I love this kind of football. I do this because it’s successful. I know that that’s the way to success.”

The Celtic manager has explained why he will not change his style of football

While he might not have been a household name in European football before arriving at Celtic, it is safe to say that he had already enjoyed a tremendous amount of success and had arguably established himself as the greatest manager in Australian football history.

And his style is bringing success at Celtic as well. There were very little expectations from this campaign, after the club had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers last time around.

A treble is still on for Celtic this season and even if they end up winning, this campaign has to be considered a success for how far this team has come in such a short span of time.
