In recent years, it has become a common sight to watch highly-rated Celtic youngsters leave in order to join Premier League teams and others around Europe before even breaking into the first-team picture at Parkhead. It goes without saying that this is not good for the Hoops and it is something that they need to work on as soon as possible. Bringing through youth is not only a part of the identity of the club but important, when it comes to competing in the modern game.
Thus, it is brilliant news for Celtic that one of their most highly-rated youngsters has chosen to remain at Parkhead over moving to one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League in Arsenal.
The player in question is Daniel Kelly, a 16-year-old midfielder, who has been on the radar of several top clubs.
But as reported by Football Scotland, Kelly will choose to remain at Parkhead and is likely to put pen to paper on his first professional deal in the near future.
Celtic youngster chooses Parkhead stay over move to Arsenal
It is not hard to see why many youngsters have chosen to depart Celtic in recent years. Other than the glitz and glamour of the top five European leagues, one also has to admit that not a lot of players have come through the youth ranks at Parkhead in recent years.
Also, Celtic have not been able to make it into the Champions League in a while now, which had been a huge attraction of playing for the club in the past.
Things appear to be changing under the management of Ange Postecoglou though and there have been suggestions that youngsters could get more opportunities moving forward. And it is very promising to see someone like Kelly choosing to remain at Celtic over joining Arsenal.
