Celtic handed massive blow in Antoine Semenyo transfer race

Celtic have added quite a few brilliant options to their squad up front over the previous two transfer windows. Kyogo Furuhashi has been the revelation of the season and already powered them to a Scottish League Cup win. On the other hand, Giorgos Giakoumakis is coming into his own as well and showing what he brings to the table. And one would expect Daizen Maeda to put in big performances as well, once he settles in.

But things move very quickly in football and it is only natural that Celtic will already be looking towards the next big transfer move that they can potentially pull off.

One player that they have been linked with recently is Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo, who has been brilliant over the past few months. Rumours have suggested that Celtic have sent scouts to watch him already.

But as reported by Bristol Live, Bristol City value Semenyo for a transfer fee in the region of £20 million. It is hard to see Celtic shelling out anything near that for any player. And as reported by GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones said:

“I don’t know if they could afford him, to be honest.”

Celtic handed major Semenyo transfer blow

It is safe to say that if that is the kind of transfer fee that it will take to sign Semenyo from Bristol City, then there is almost zero chance of Celtic making a move for the youngster.

The club record transfer fee that Celtic have ever shelled out is not even half of that. On the other hand, one also has to question whether the club do really need him at this point of time.

There primary focus must instead be on strengthening the defensive side of things, with set-pieces proving to be a real problem for the Hoops right now. May be they could do with an aerially dominant centre-back or a midfield enforcer.
