‘Now, Look, Everyone Loves Him’ – Pundit wowed by Celtic man who ‘Came Out Of Nowhere’

Frank McAvennie has been blown away by the progress Celtic have made under Ange Postecoglou this season.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, thought his former side were gearing up for a transitional season.

Celtic won their ninth game in a row in all competitions when they beat Raith Rovers 4-0 on Sunday (13 February).

That result earned Postecoglou’s side a place in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup.

The Hoops’ impressive run of form has also seen the club move to the top of the Premiership table.

McAvennie has admitted he didn’t think his former side would be challenging for silverware this season.

“I didn’t think we would be here already,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think back to last season and how bad it was. The fact we are top of the league is amazing.

“Look at the run of form we are on, it’s chalk and cheese compared to last season.

“We have got a lot of players in and let a lot of players go, that’s what had to happen.

“It’s been such a good effort from everyone at the club. We have already won a cup this season as well.

“I thought this would be a transition season where we didn’t really challenge but maybe started to build something.

“To be where we are is brilliant, incredible even. You have to hand it to the manager.

“Everyone thought it would be Eddie Howe and, Ange, he came out of nowhere.

“No one really rated him and now look, everyone loves him. I’m just delighted with the job he’s done and I think we’re only going to get better,”

Celtic are next in action against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday (17 February).

That game is at Parkhead with the Hoops travelling to Norway for the second leg exactly one week later (24 February).
