Celtic have been handed massive Jota transfer boost

Jota has been an absolute revelation after arriving at Celtic on a season-long loan from Benfica in the summer. When he first arrived, there were a lot of doubts about the move and they were understandable. While the Portuguese winger had been a standout while coming through the youth ranks, and had even been linked with Real Madrid at one point, his senior career had not been impressive until that point.

Jota failed to find himself a regular spot in the Benfica first-team and then, he struggled while on loan at Real Valladolid as well.

Things have completely changed for Jota since joining Celtic though. He has emerged as an absolute superstar at Parkhead. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists in 18 appearances for the Hoops this season.

Thus, naturally, there have been calls from the fans to make the move permanent, with Celtic having an option to buy included in the deal. Some doubts were raised though because of the fact that Benfica have changed managers recently.

Celtic handed massive Jota transfer boost

As reported by A Bola, Celtic and Benfica have continued to advance about the Jota transfer. The Hoops have already decided that they want to keep the Portuguese winger and they have an option to buy around €7.5 million.

Let’s see how the transfer saga unfolds but it is safe to say that if Celtic are able to sign Jota on a permanent basis, it would be considered as a major coup on the part of the club.

Jota is currently out with an injury and even returned to Benfica recently to get it checked. But when he is fit, it would be interesting to see how Ange Postecoglou plays him along with the likes of Daizen Maeda and Kyogo in the same team, if that is indeed in the manager’s plans.
