Celtic want to move on another Neil Lennon signing

Last season was one to forget for Celtic, as the club finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership and lost their chance to complete a historic 10IAR. There were many reasons for the team’s struggles in the previous campaign. But one of the biggest one of them was the fact that the majority of their signings failed to make the impact that the Hoops would have been hoping for.

Albian Ajeti has already been linked with a January exit. And it looks like Celtic could be hoping to find Vasilis Barkas a new club as well.

As reported by The Athletic, a source in Greece suggests that Celtic will attempt to move Barkas on in January, preferably in a permanent deal, but if not then on loan.

Barkas struggled to nail down his position between the posts last season and with the arrival of Joe Hart this summer, there is no question about who the first-choice goalkeeper at Parkhead is at this point of time.

When Barkas arrived at Celtic in the summer of 2020, after the Hoops had failed to bring back Fraser Forster from Southampton, there were high expectations surrounding him. It is believed that the club shelled out a transfer fee around £4.5 million to bring the Greek goalkeeper to Parkhead from AEK Athens.

It is safe to say that things have not gone as expected for Barkas and at the moment, it is questionable whether he is even the second-choice goalkeeper in Ange Postecoglou’s side right now.

Of course, it remains to be seen what the future holds, but for now, Barkas’ chances of breaking into the starting XI are very slim. Thus, a move away from Celtic, whether on a permanent basis or on a loan, might be the right step for both the goalkeeper and the club in the current situation.
