Former Celtic star announces his retirement from football

The former Celtic star has announced his retirement from football today, at the age of 34, having enjoyed a great career in Scotland as well as down South. And having played a big part in several league wins for the Hoops, it is safe to say that he will be remembered for his contributions to the club for a long time.

Joe Ledley arrived at Celtic in the summer of 2010 and would go on to enjoy three-and-a-half brilliant seasons with the club before leaving for Crystal Palace in January of 2014.

He played a big part for the Premier League side as well and before joining Celtic, he was a big part of Cardiff City, the club whose youth ranks he came through and ultimately broke into the senior picture.

Ledley also played for the likes of Derby County, Charlton Athletic, Newcastle Jets and Newport County, and made several appearances for the Wales national team through the course of his career, before hanging up his boots today.

Ledley announced his retirement from football on his Instagram in an emotional post a few hours back today.

It is safe to say that Ledley enjoyed a brilliant career, that lasted almost two decades, at both club and international level, before hanging up his boots.

A brilliant midfielder in his prime, known for his brilliant work rate and leaving it all on the pitch, he was someone who shined on both ends of the pitch.

While his time at Celtic might not have been very long, he definitely left an impression on the club to say the least. We can only thank him for his contributions to the Hoops, and wish him the best of luck moving forward in whatever it is that he decides to do next.
