When Celtic signed Jota on a season-long loan from Benfica, there were a lot of doubts surrounding the Portuguese youngster. He has been absolutely sensational since coming in though and already nailed down a spot in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI. There are very few doubts now and most fans want the Hoops to sign him on a permanent basis.

Fortunately for Celtic, they have an option to buy included in the loan deal. It is believed that the Hoops will need to shell out a transfer fee around £6.5 million to sign Jota on a permanent basis and if they end up doing that, it will make him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

But considering how Jota is playing, it might almost be a no-brainer and Celtic must do everything that they can to make his loan deal permanent.

In fact, it looks like the club are already thinking about it. A report from A BOLA reads:

Celtic are satisfied with the performance of Jota, 22-year-old forward on loan from Benfica, and are thinking about moving forward to the definitive purchase of the under-21 international.

Jota has been sensational till now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists in 13 appearances for Celtic across all competitions till now.

Those are brilliant stats for any winger. And he is bringing so much more to the table than just that. His overall play has been brilliant and he is most probably the best dribbler at Parkhead right now.

If Celtic are able to sign Jota, it would be considered as a major coup on the part of the club. Ultimately though, it might all come down to the player himself and what he wants to do.

It must be pointed out that this is the first time that he is playing regular first-team football at the senior level. Despite being one of the most highly rated youngsters in the world and being linked with Real Madrid at one point of time, Jota was never able to establish himself in the Benfica first-team and his loan spell at Real Valladolid was not great either.
