‘He Looks A Real Talent’ – Scots pundit wowed by barely-seen Celtic player

Alan Hutton has suggested Celtic may have struck gold with the signing of Georgios Giakoumakis after his early performances in Glasgow.

The former Rangers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, raved over the 26-year-old’s “all-round play” in his first couple of appearances.

The summer signing opened his account in Saturday’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone, his first start for the Bhoys.

The Greece international now has four appearances under his belt for the Hoops.

Giakoumakis joined the Bhoys for a reported £2.5million from VVV Venlo this summer.

He scored 29 goals in 33 appearances for the Dutch outfit last season.

Hutton admitted he has been excited to see how the striker gets on in Glasgow.

He suggested the early signs have been very positive for Celtic.

“I’ve been looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the party,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“It’s been difficult for him scoring so many goals last season and then coming to a new club and being injured.

“I actually thought he performed really well in midweek against Ferencvaros. He was really good, he looked strong, he could hold the ball up, his all round play was good.

“To get your first goal, you just grow in confidence. I think that’s what he’s been itching for. It’s difficult coming into a new club to be injured.

“He looks a real talent, he ticks a lot of the boxes. Obviously, we’re going to need to wait and see over the next few weeks but he looks a very good player.”

Giakoumakis missed Celtic’s early fixtures this season due to injury.

The St Johnstone game was the first time he has played over 20 minutes for the Bhoys.
