Former Sporting Director pictured at Celtic game today

Things are looking up for Celtic at the moment. The 2-0 win against St Johnstone meant that they are now unbeaten in four games across all competitions and are building up some solid momentum once again. And the former sporting director of a Scottish Premiership club was pictured at Parkhead today, naturally sparking some speculation.

While Celtic have made some changes on the pitch and need some more, it is clear that they need to make them behind the scenes as well.

One of the positions that they need to fill is sporting director. And they have been linked with several names over the past few months but an appointment has not been made in the position yet.

As reported by the Daily Record, former Hibernian sporting director Graeme Mathie was spotted in the Directors Box during the game between Celtic and St Johnstone. Naturally, his appearance in the VIP seats at Parkhead has sparked speculation that he could be lined up for role at the club.

Mathie left Hibernian just last month after spending seven years at the club. And it is important to remember that he already has a history with Celtic.

He was very highly rated for the work that he did during his time at Hibernian and was instrumental behind the club’s recent successes.

On the other hand, coming to Celtic, the Hoops were always expected to undergo a restructure behind the scenes and are believed to be looking for a director of football and a head of recruitment at this point of time.

It remains to be seen how long it will take the Hoops to fill those roles but Mathie’s appearance at Celtic Park is certainly very interesting. Let’s see where things go from here on.
