Giorgos Giakoumakis claim should excite Celtic fans for the future

It is safe to say that it has taken quite some time for Giorgos Giakoumakis to get up to match speed and make his first start for Celtic. But he did announce himself in style with a goal against St Johnstone. And it looks like the fans should be even more excited about what is to come in the future.

Giakoumakis arrived on transfer deadline day this summer and it is safe to say that he was not match fit at that point of time after not having much of a pre-season.

He impressed while coming off the bench the previous couple of times though and made his first start for Celtic against St Johnstone. And it did not take him long to get on the scoresheet as he brilliantly converted a cross from Anthony Ralston to put the hosts ahead.

And Giakoumakis’ comments after the game suggest that he is not at his best yet but is getting closer. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Greek striker told BBC Radio Scotland:

“Finally, I’m getting closer.

“I’m not really a patient guy, so for me, it was a little bit difficult. I worked hard and I’m much better. Day by day, game by game I’m feeling better and better.”

Giakoumakis could play a huge role in this Celtic team this season

It is safe to say that Giakoumakis’ start to life had a lot of fans worried about whether the club had made the right signing. The fact that he did not impress on his debut or his scoring record before the 2020/21 campaign was not great did not help matters.

But it is safe to say that Giakoumakis has looked a lot better recently and can go on to play a huge role in Postecoglou’s team this season moving forward if he can remain fit and in form.

Of course, it is still to early to make a judgement on whether he will be a good signing for the club or not and we will only know that in the future. But for the time being, the early signs have been very positive.
