Celtic are leading race to sign international midfielder

Celtic have done an excellent job rebuilding their squad since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. That is evident from the fact that they won a Premiership and League Cup double last season, despite having all the odds stacked against them and very few expectations. But with Champions League football to play next season and the Scottish crown to defend, the Hoops must continue improving their squad.

One role that needs reinforcements is that of a defensive midfielder. Scott Brown left the club last summer. And at the end of last season, Nir Bitton brought the curtain down on his time at Parkhead as well.

On the other hand, the likes of Ismaila Soro, James McCarthy and Yosuke Ideguchi have all struggled to nail down a spot in Postecoglou’s side. As a result, Celtic might need to dip into the transfer market to bring in an enforcer this summer.

The club have been heavily linked with Lommel SK’s Vinicius Souza recently but face heavy competition for his signature. And as reported by A Bola (via The Scotsman), a number of clubs are interested in Alfa Semedo, who is likely to move on this summer, but it is Celtic who are at the forefront.

Celtic are at the forefront of Semedo transfer race

Semedo currently plays for Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes and has been immensely impressive. He was with Benfica in the past as well.

One great thing about Semedo is the fact that he might not have a very difficult time adjusting to the Scottish game, as he has spent time in the English Championship in the past, at Nottingham Forest and Reading.

It remains to be seen if Celtic are able to sign the Guinea-Bissau international star. With the club in need of a defensive midfielder, the 24-year-old could be a great addition.
