This is a very different looking Celtic side from the one that finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership last season. The club ended up signing twelve players in the summer and then made five more additions in the January transfer window. On the other hand, key players like Scott Brown, Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and others departed Parkhead.

The changes have had the desired impact though and the club have made tremendous strides from where they were last season. Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup and are leading the Premiership title race by 3 points, despite having played a game less than the Rangers.

One area that Ange Postecoglou has not made many tweaks in since arriving is the backroom staff at Celtic but it looks like that could be a focus this off-season, now that he has a better understanding of the workings of the club.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Celtic manager said in a press conference:

“The club has been really supportive. I tend to be fairly meticulous and probably in some respects people feel I maybe should move a bit quicker. But I just like to get things right. I haven’t rushed these decisions or brought people in for the sake of it. I’ll bring people in who I believe can add to a really strong group of staff who support the players.

“We’ll do that over the coming months. Michael Nicholson and the board have been really supportive about that. They’re leaving it to me and making sure whatever I’ve asked for I’ve received. I think that’ll continue.”

Postecoglou confirms behind the scenes plans for Celtic in the off-season

While the Celtic board has been criticised for a lot of things over the years, one thing that they do deserve credit for is not only identifying Ange Postecoglou as the man to lead the club when the attempt to bring in Eddie Howe failed to materialise, but then giving him the proper backing to succeed, even when they had stumbled out of the gates.

It could not have been easy, as the reaction of the media and even the fans, was not particularly positive to the appointment, and understandably so, considering Postecoglou was a relative unknown in European football at that point of time, despite his considerable successes in both Australia and Japan.
