Ange Postecoglou admits Celtic have a major concern

Ange Postecoglou has overseen an incredible turnaround at Celtic ever since arriving at the club in the summer. Many fans had viewed his appointment as manager as disappointing at first and understandably so, as he was a bit of an unknown in the European game despite enjoying considerable success in both Japan and Australia. Half-a-season on and it is safe to say that the supporters are delighted with the decision that the club made.

Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup, are three points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership title race and are still in the Scottish Cup as well.

This is more than what most fans would have expected after a disappointing 2020/21 campaign, that saw the club finish trophyless and 25 points the Rangers in the Premiership.

Despite all the success that the club have enjoyed under the management of Postecoglou till now, some problems remain as well. And the manager has admitted that defending set-pieces is a concern for Celtic. As reported by The Scotsman, he said:

“It’s a concern.

“[Especially] when we’re dominating a game so much, defending so well and keeping them away from goal, Joe Hart didn’t have a save to make. I don’t think he even touched the ball with his hands. If they can just lob balls in the box and we concede, that’s not good. It’s something we need to address, have a little more conviction in our box, the same way we do in the opposition box. There are definitely lessons in there but that’s part of our continual improvement as a team. There are still areas we need to get better at and that’s one of them.”

Postecoglou has admitted that Celtic have a concern

Defence has been a worry for Celtic for a long time. For the most part, they have been able to improve in this aspect over the past several months. But set-pieces continue to remain their Achilles’ heel.

With how tight the Premiership title race is right now, this could turn out to be a major problem for Celtic down the line if they are not able to take care of the issue soon.

The two goals that they conceded against Dundee FC could have turned out to be very vital but the Hoops managed to find a way out on the day. They cannot depend on that to happen in every match though. This side has come a long way since the arrival of Postecoglou, but there is still a lot of room for improvement for sure.
