Celtic did not put in a glorious performance against Raith Rovers in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup but it was still good enough for them to walk out with a 4-0 victory. Liam Scales, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Daizen Maeda and Nir Bitton got the goals for the Hoops. And one could argue that many players might have had an eye on the upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League tie against Bodo/Glimt, with the first leg set to be played in midweek.
Overall, things have been looking up for Celtic in recent times and they must be confident going into the game against the Norwegian champions.
But at the same time, they were handed a blow in the game against Raith Rovers as well, as Mikey Johnston had to be brought off the pitch with an injury.
Johnston was heavily linked with a move away from Celtic on loan last month and considering how things have turned out for him over the past couple of years, it might even be time for them to give a thought to letting the youngster leave for good.
Celtic player’s Parkhead career may be over soon
Johnston was one of the most highly-rated players at Celtic while coming through the youth ranks at the club.
And he would back that hype up with some brilliant performances when he first broke into the first-team picture. At one point of time, many even believed that he had the potential to be a 20-goal winger.
It is safe to say that things have gone downhill for Johnston since then. He has had to deal with one injury after another, and has barely stayed fit for any considerable length time over the past couple of years.
On top of that, he appears to have lost his effectiveness, which had made him such a can’t-miss prospect while coming through the youth ranks. And now, Celtic must definitely consider whether his long-term future lies away from Parkhead.
