Rangers could be handed huge blow before facing Celtic

Coming out of the winter break, the Rangers held a 6-point lead over Celtic. That has already been reduced to just a couple of points though. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side could only manage to get draws against Aberdeen and Ross County, while Ange Postecoglou’s side have won all of their games this month. As a result, if they get a win on Wednesday, they will return to the top of the Premiership table after a long time.

It is safe to say though that aim is to be at the top of the table at the end of all 38 league games and not in February. But the Rangers could potentially be handed a huge blow in that regard as well, just days before facing Celtic in the Glasgow Derby.

As reported by Sporx, Alfredo Morelos is one of the names on Fenerbahce’s transfer wishlist and they are believed to be in negotiations with the Rangers for the Colombian.

Morelos has been the Rangers’ highest scorer this season till now and as a result, if he was to leave, especially this late in the January transfer window, it would come as a huge blow for Van Bronckhorst’s side and their Premiership title hopes this season.

Now, Morelos was already expected to be miss the match against Celtic and as a result, even if he was to leave, it would not have a direct impact on the Glasgow Derby.

It might have a huge impact on the remainder of the Rangers’ season though, who already appear to be struggling a bit right now.

Thus, Wednesday is a great opportunity for Celtic to take a lead over their Glasgow rivals. But at the same time, one has to admit that the Hoops have their own worries as well, when it comes to player availability.
