Celtic manager gives latest injury update on Kyogo

One of the biggest worries that Celtic have right now is the injury situation of Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japanese star had initially picked up a problem in the final Europa League group stage game against Real Betis. In hindsight, it was a mistake on the part of Ange Postecoglou to play him when nothing was riding on the result. He would then reinjure himself on Boxing Day against St Johnstone.

Initially, it was not believed to be a serious problem and most expected Kyogo to be fit by the time the winter break came to an end.

Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Kyogo has been out for over a month now and it does not feel like he is close to a return to the pitch at the moment. It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal.

Amidst all this, Postecoglou has given the latest update on the injury situation of the Japanese star and it looks it is a similar problem to that of David Turnbull, who has been out since the Scottish League Cup final. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic manager said:

“I said he is going to be out for a number of weeks.

“It’s a similar injury to Dave Turnbull and he’s been out for quite a while, so we expect a similar sort of recovery.”

It remains to be seen when Kyogo eventually makes his return to the pitch for Celtic. Turnbull himself has not featured since being forced off the pitch against Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup final and as a result, it is hard to get a timeline from that.

Whenever that turns out to be, one can only hope that Kyogo ends up regaining full fitness because Celtic will definitely need him if they are to make a title charge in the second half of the season.

With Albian Ajeti also out injured and Daizen Maeda away on international duty with Japan, Giorgos Giakoumakis is the only striker available for Celtic right now.
