Celtic fans will not have fond memories of how Neil Lennon’s second spell as manager of the club came to an end. The Hoops had the chance to win a historical 10th straight Scottish league title but did not end up doing so in the 2020/21 campaign. Instead, it was a season to forget for the Glasgow giants as they would finish 25 points behind the Rangers, with the Northern Irishman stepping down in February.
Of course, it was just one of those seasons when nothing goes your way. But at the same time, one cannot deny the fact that the club had struggled in other aspects as well for the entirety of Lennon’s second spell as manager.
Signing players was one of those aspects. They just brought in too many players who never ended up making a mark at Celtic and were moved on not too long afterwards.
Lee O’Connor has turned out to be one such signing. He had come through the youth ranks at Manchester United and as a result, there were hopes that he would do well at Celtic. But instead, he never made a single appearance for the club and as reported by Tranmere Rovers’ official website, has signed for the League Two club on a permanent basis.
Another Lennon signing has departed Celtic
O’Connor is just one of several signings in recent years who have not made much of impact at Celtic.
Fortunately, things appear to be changing in that regard since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager.
Celtic have made several good signings in recent times, like Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Joe Hart, Liel Abada, just to name a few. And January arrivals like Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate have already shown good potential.
Things are certainly looking up for the club in that respect. Now it remains to be seen if they can win back the Premiership title in the near future.
