Premiership rivals begin talks with Celtic for loan move

Celtic have enjoyed a solid January transfer window till now, already completing five signings in the form of Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Johnny Kenny and Matt O’Riley. On the other hand, there have been a few exits as well, with Liam Shaw and Conor Hazard joining Motherwell and HJK Helsinki on loan respectively. On the other hand, Ewan Henderson has joined Hibernian on loan although it is expected to be made permanent in the summer.

And now, it appears that another Celtic player could potentially be headed out of Parkhead on loan in the form of Mikey Johnston.

Johnston has struggled to make his mark for quite some time now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has not scored and provided just one assist in 18 appearances for Celtic this season, while featuring for 592 minutes in total.

As a result, it would not be a surprise to see him leave on loan in the near future and as tweeted out by Ekrem Konur, Aberdeen have begun talks to sign Johnston from Celtic on loan.

Aberdeen have begun talks to sign Johnston on loan from Celtic

Johnston was very highly-rated while coming through the youth ranks at Celtic and was believed to be the next big thing when he broke into the first-team picture at Parkhead.

But over the past few years, he has suffered one injury after another and it has resulted in his development being stalled.

One of his biggest strengths was having an effect on games but this season, he has not been able to do that, having a hand in just one goal till now.

Thus, sending Johnston out on loan to a club where he can play regular football and get his rhythm back is a good idea. Now, it remains to be seen whether a move to Aberdeen ends up happening or not.
