Ange Postecoglou drops hint about possible Celtic exit

The January transfer window for Celtic has been marked by arrivals till now although there have a couple of exits as well, in the form of Liam Shaw and Ewan Henderson. But overall, the club have been able to add a lot of depth to Ange Postecoglou’s squad and there have been suggestions that they might be looking make more signings this month. On the other hand though, one must expect some outgoings as well.

There are quite a few players at Parkhead who have not been able to find their feet and as a result, would most probably be helped by a move away from the club.

Vasilis Barkas is one such player. Celtic signed him from AEK Athens in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee believed to be around £4.5 million, after they failed in their attempt to bring back Fraser Forster.

It is safe to say that it has not worked out for Barkas since then and at the moment, he finds himself completely out of the first-team picture at Celtic. And Postecoglou did not rule out a potential exit for the Greek goalkeeper. As reported by Football Scotland, the manager told Novasports:

“He tried to settle in, but it was difficult with Covid situation.

“But he is a hard worker. We will see what will happens at Celtic or elsewhere.”

Postecoglou has not ruled out potential Celtic exit for Barkas

At this point of time, Barkas finds himself behind Joe Hart and Scott Bain in the pecking order. And there is very little chance of him becoming a first-team regular in Postecoglou’s team unless something very unexpected happens.

As a result, a move away from Celtic might be the best for both the club and the player right now. It remains to be seen though if the Hoops are able to find Barkas a new team in January, whether on loan or on a permanent basis.

It must be said though that the Greek goalkeeper was very highly-rated before his move to Celtic and had impressed at both domestic and international level.
