The early portion of Celtic’s January transfer window has been marked by incomings. The club have already announced moves for Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate. And recent rumours have suggested that they might be closing in on a move for highly-rated 18-year-old striker, Johnny Kenny, as well. But there might be a few outgoings to come as well.
There are several players who have struggled for playing time at Celtic this season, and quite a few of them have been linked with moves away.
And while it might make sense to let a few of them leave in January, the club must hold on to a few others, who could still make a contribution to the club in this campaign.
At the end of the day, even now, Celtic’s squad depth is pretty light. As a result, they could do with more options all over the pitch.
Celtic: 3 struggling players the club should not let go in January
Here are three struggling players that Celtic should not let go in January despite rumours linking them with a Parkhead exit:
Ajeti made a spectacular start to his time at Celtic, after being signed in the summer of 2020 and it had looked like the club had pulled off a transfer masterstroke.
He would pick up an injury in the process of scoring a goal early on in the campaign though and has never been able to rediscover that form since then.
Ajeti has been linked with a move away from Celtic for a while. But it might make sense for the club to hold on to him, at least till the end of the season.
Even now, he has shown more goalscoring prowess in a Celtic shirt than Giorgos Giakoumakis, who has struggled with fitness issues since arriving. As a result, Ajeti could prove to be a potential option for Postecoglou, if those above him in the striker pecking order get injured.
