There were a lot of questions surrounding Jota when Celtic signed him on a season-long loan from Benfica in the summer. The Portuguese winger had been one of the most highly-rated talents in world football while coming through the youth ranks but had not been able to find his feet at the senior level. But after his performances since arriving at Parkhead, the only question surrounding him now is whether the Hoops can sign him on a permanent basis.
Jota has been absolutely superb for Celtic. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 6 goals and provided 6 assists in 15 appearances for the club.
Thus, it goes without saying that he is one of the most important players in Ange Postecoglou’s side right now. And fortunately, Celtic have an option to buy included in his loan deal from Benfica.
The option is believed to be a transfer fee around €7.5 million, which would instantly make him one of the biggest signings in the club’s history. But considering how he is performing now, it seems like a bit of a no-brainer.
Celtic’s Jota responds to question about his future
“I just want to play and that’s what I’m doing. I think the best message to the support is what we do on the pitch. We want to play good football and I think we have been doing a lot of great football.”
As one would expect, Jota decided to keep his cards close to his chest but he certainly seems happy with how things have been going at Celtic for him. One has to remember that this is the first time in his career that he is playing regular first-team football at the senior level, anywhere. And at 22 years of age, he has been around for a bit.
Recent rumours have suggested that Celtic are ready to make a move for Jota soon and try to make his stay permanent. And ultimately, it might come down to the player and what he wants to do in the future.
