Celtic injury blow as star could be out for rest of the year

The recent news surrounding Celtic and injuries have been quite positive with several players making their return to action but Ange Postecoglou has confirmed some worrying news surrounding a problem position in this team.

We have seen the Hoops struggling recently with injury problems but with the likes of Kyogo, Callum McGregor, Josip Juranovic, Giorgos Giakoumakis and others returning, things have been looking up in that regard. Christopher Jullien and James Forrest appear to be closing in on their comebacks as well.

Postecoglou though still has got an injury problem to face at left-back. Greg Taylor has already been out for a while through an injury and underwent surgery recently. That has meant that we’ve seen the likes Boli Bolingoli, Juranovic, Adam Montgomery and Liam Scales feature there in his absence. And it appears that the Scottish left-back will remain out for a while longer.

As reported by Football Scotland, the Celtic manager said regarding Taylor’s situation:

“Greg’s had an operation on his shoulder, it’s about four weeks since he started rehab so he’s still a good couple of months away.

“It’s a contact thing where we have to be careful.”

The Celtic star could be out for the rest of the year

We are already in late October. Thus, if Taylor does end up missing a good couple of months, then it is very possible that he might not even return to the pitch before 2022.

Taylor has been a regular feature at left-back for Celtic in recent years but many fans don’t see him as the long term first choice left-back for the club.

The problem is that in his absence, nobody else has managed to quite stand out either. Montgomery’s performances have been mixed. Bolingoli did well in one game but will have to show consistency. In the past, we have seen him struggle for the Hoops.

The return of Juranovic from injury offers better cover, especially alongside Anthony Ralston’s good run of form at right-back. But that is not a long-term fix there either.

The club have been linked with Derby County’s Lee Buchanan in recent times and it will be interesting to see whether a move is on the cards for the English youngster.
