Surprising Daizen Maeda comments emerge amid Celtic links

Daizen Maeda has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent times. The Japanese star has been absolutely sensational in the J1 League this season and has played under Ange Postecoglou in the past, during their time together at Yokohama F. Marinos. As a result, the Hoops’ links with the player should not come as any surprise.

Maeda is enjoying a terrific season right now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 18 goals in 31 J1 League appearances this season till now. He is the leading goalscorer in the J1 League at this point of time.

Rapidly fast, possessing great stamina, good movement and the ability to finish with both his feet, many view Maeda as the perfect player for Postecoglou’s style of football. And thus, if Celtic are able to sign him in the January transfer window, it would be considered as a major coup for the club.

It appears that Maeda does not view himself as a great player though. While speaking with Sportiva Shueisha and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, the Japanese star said:

“I run for the team, and do it crazy. If you lose that, you’re done. I’m not a good player, so I have to work hard all the time to compete with a good player.”

Maeda has been linked with a move to Celtic in the January transfer window

This is most probably a matter of Maeda being incredible humble other than anything else. Any player who has scored 18 goals in a season, while not always playing as a centre forward, and is leading the scoring charts in a very competitive league definitely has a lot to his game.

Someone like Maeda could prove to be an incredible addition to this Celtic team. Interestingly, he already has had a stint in Europe before, with Portuguese side Maritimo.

He just turned 24 years of age just a few days back and would only be expected to get better moving forward. Celtic have already signed a brilliant player from the J1 League in the form of Kyogo. Can they repeat that in January?
