The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it is important for Scotland’s giants to ward off complacency both on and off the field.

Postecoglou, as quoted by the Daily Record on Sunday, revealed “badly needed” sports scientist Anton McElhone has already had a big impact behind the scenes.

He also confirmed that he and interim chief executive Michael Nicholson were taking their time to explore fresh options in the scouting and recruitment department.

Campbell insisted it was important that Celtic continued to innovate in order to keep pace with teams in England.

“It’s always important to have a fresh perspective and new ideas,” he told Football Insider.

“If you’re one of the two big boys, as Rangers and Celtic
are, it’s maybe a bit easy to be a bit blasé.

“Maybe they think ‘oh, we’re the top teams’ – but come down to England with teams in the Championship.

“That plays a huge role at football club nowadays, and I’m not saying Celtic didn’t have a sports scientist and so on – but maybe it wasn’t there to the extent that it should be.

“It’s definitely a big plus.”

Postecoglou has overseen a rebuild at Parkhead since his arrival in June, with no less than eight first-teamers moving on permanently at the end of last term.

The Australian brought in 10 summer additions of his own, including Kyogo Furuhashi – who has captured Celtic hearts since his signing from Vissel Kobe.
