Celtic are rumoured to be looking to bring in some marquee players this summer in order to strengthen Brendan Rodgers’ squad. One area where they certainly need reinforcements at the moment is on the wings. They have seen a nailed on starter like Jota leave recently, leaving a big gap there.
Jota arrived at the club in the summer of 2021 and played a key part in all their successes over the past couple of seasons. Thus, Celtic need to find a proper replacement for him.
And they might have their eyes on someone who has already worked with Rodgers. As reported by the Daily Record, reports in Ukraine have hinted that Celtic are red hot favourites to sign Tete.
Tete would certainly be a high profile signing for Celtic. The Brazilian winger is believed to have a transfer value of around €20 million. Shakhtar Donetsk are not expected to receive anywhere close to that though, as his current deal runs out at the end of this year.
Celtic favourites to sign €20 million Brazilian winger
Rodgers worked with Tete last season, when he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Leicester City. He made a bright start for the Foxes but failed to keep up his early form. The fact that the Northern Irishman was shown the exit door must not have helped him either.
He was on loan at Lyon in the first half of the 2022/23 campaign though and was brilliant there. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Tete scored 6 goals and provided 5 assists in 19 appearances for the French club last season.
Tete’s numbers at Shakhtar Donetsk have been very good as well and he has also represented Brazil at several youth levels. Thus, the winger is clearly a big talent and on top of everything else, he is still just 23 years of age.
