Sky Sports man rules out Celtic move for £17m player

Rumours doing the rounds over the past few weeks have suggested that Celtic could be about to break their transfer record this summer and make a few marquee signings. There had been suggestions that Brendan Rodgers was promised a big budget to strengthen his squad, when he returned to Parkhead for a second stint in the hot seat.

That must have been further boosted following the departure of Jota. The Portuguese winger left Celtic to join Al-Ittihad for a transfer fee believed to be around £25 million.

Celtic have already signed Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio. They are highly rated young talents but not players who are expected to walk straight into the starting XI.

It remains to be seen which big names Celtic end up targeting this summer, if any. One player who they were linked with, soon after Rodgers’ appointment as manager, was Wilfred Ndidi.

Rodgers worked with Ndidi during their time together at Leicester City. And while he might have faced his struggles last season, it was not too long ago that he was considered as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.

But as reported by GIVEMESPORT, Anthony Joseph said about the matter:

“I don’t believe Ndidi is a player Celtic are looking to sign in this window, certainly not one of the top targets or even middle-range targets at all.

“I’d be very surprised if he brings in anyone from Leicester, unless it’s someone perhaps from the younger teams or a player that’s shown potential in the younger age groups and breaking into the first team.”

Thus, it looks like Celtic making a move for Ndidi this summer is unlikely, even though Leicester City have dropped into the Championship. And that might be for the better, when you consider the struggles he has faced recently. Many believe that injuries have caught up to the Nigerian midfielder at just 26 years of age.

With question marks surrounding the future of Reo Hatate, Celtic might need to add to their midfield ranks soon. Let’s see how this summer transfer window plays out for the Hoops. It is an exciting time to be a fan for sure.
