Scott McTominay linked with Celtic despite major hurdle

As always there are lots of stories and rumours about possible signings and departures of players at Celtic this summer. After suggestions of interest in Kieran Tierney returning on loan from Arsenal for the season, there is now a second Premier League player being tipped for a possible move to Parkhead.

Certainly Brendan Rodgers will be looking for quality players, ideally with some experience of playing at a high level, to boost his squad. With Champions League group stage football guaranteed there is an added incentive for people to consider a move to Celtic. But there are of course other barriers which may come into play.

The bookies have listed Celtic as a possible destination for Scott McTominay. He is expected to leave Manchester United this summer, with Mason Mount closing in on a move from Chelsea

McTominay has plenty of top level experience, playing for Manchester United in the Premier League and the Champions League. He is also on a great run of goal scoring form for the Scotland national team.

McTominay linked with Celtic despite major hurdle

McTominay could well have several Premier League clubs seeking his signature. Currently Newcastle United are seen as favourites with Everton and West Ham United also believed to be contenders.

Then there is the question of a transfer fee for the player. With two years left on his Manchester United contract, the club are believed to be looking for at least a £30 million figure for the Scot. And that is beyond Celtic’s level to be very honest.

Celtic bringing in someone like McTominay on loan is much more realistic, and there have been such rumours in the past. But it is unlikely that Manchester United would be looking to send him out on a temporary basis this summer. Thus, the Scottish midfielder ending up at Parkhead is almost impossible.
