Celtic have a very strong squad already but with Champions League football to navigate through next season, the club could certainly do with a few more reinforcements. There have been extensive rumours and reports about their need to make additions in defensive midfield following the departure of Nir Bitton. But one position that is probably been overlooked a bit is a bit further up the pitch, with Tom Rogic having also left.
Rogic was an important part of this team without a shadow of a doubt and they will need to fill his void. Matt O’Riley looks like a ready-made replacement for him and David Turnbull is an interesting option as well, but perhaps Celtic could do with another option in the middle of the park.
Thus, one player that they should keep an eye on is Riqui Puig of Barcelona, who has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, after struggling for playing time.
Puig has been linked with a move to recently-promoted Girona recently. The chance to play Champions League football at Celtic would most probably be a more attractive option though.
Celtic should try to sign Barcelona midfield maestro
Now, Puig would not be a like-for-like replacement for Rogic. He is a central midfielder, even though he can play a bit further up the pitch.
While he might have struggled at Barcelona recently, at one point of time not too long ago, he was considered as the club’s next big hope.
Following the arrival of Ronald Koeman as manager, he dropped down the pecking order though and has not been able to recover despite Xavi being the current manager of Barcelona.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Puig played just 474 minutes in La Liga last season. Thus, it is not hard to see why he could be on his way out of Camp Nou.
