Celtic must part ways with £7 million star this summer

Celtic have been very busy this summer, with the majority of their high profile moves involving incomings. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Daizen Maeda, Benjamin Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei have all joined the Hoops on permanent deals. But on the other hand, there are a few players who the club must find a new home for as well.

Earlier this summer, newly-promoted Bundesliga club Schalke were heavily linked a move for Christopher Jullien. It was thought that he would make a loan move with an option to buy included in the deal.

However, it is believed that the club and the player failed to reach an agreement over terms. Since then, Schalke have signed Maya Yoshida and as a result, it does not feel like they would still be making a move for another centre-back in Jullien.

Jullien has one year left on his current deal at Celtic and there is very little chance of that being extended. Thus, if he doesn’t get a move this summer, he could leave the Scottish giants as a free agent next time around.

Celtic must let the player go this summer

Having managed to sign Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur, it makes sense for Celtic to let Jullien go this summer.

After sustaining  a serious injury in the 2020/21 campaign, Jullien spent more than a year out of action. But even when the defender returned from his lengthy spell on the sidelines, he barely featured for the Hoops. He was pretty much the fourth-choice centre-back at the club last season and made only a single appearance, that too as a substitute.

In addition to his injury record and lack of playing time, his contract is also running down, and thus, it makes sense for all parties involved to part ways now. In his place, Celtic could sign someone who is ready to play a more proactive role for the club next season.
