Christopher Jullien is one of the most expensive signings in the history of Celtic and he enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign at Parkhead after joining the club in the summer of 2019, even scoring the League Cup-winning goal against the Rangers. Things have not gone his way after that season though and he has barely featured for the Hoops since then.
Jullien was struggling with fitness issues already at the beginning of the 2020/21 campaign and then he would suffer a serious knee injury, which kept him out for the entirety of 2021.
He returned to fitness earlier this year but has failed to break into Ange Postecoglou’s plans, making a single appearance, that too off the bench. As a result, him leaving at this point of time would make sense for all parties involved.
A proposed move to Schalke had appeared to have fallen apart though, after rumours suggested that Jullien failed to agree terms with the German club. But as tweeted out by Marc Mechenoua, it looks like a move is not completely ruled out yet and discussions are continuing:
Jullien’s future at Celtic takes another twist as move is not completely off the table
It remains to be seen how things turn out from here but it appears that the transfer saga between Celtic, Jullien and Schalke is not over, like it had appeared yesterday.
Of course, that does not mean that it will happen, as it looks like there are still hurdles in the deal, with no agreement yet in place.
Jullien is not expected to play much regular football if he did end up staying at Celtic though, with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Stephen Welsh all believed to be ahead of him in the pecking order as things stand.
It must be pointed out that Schalke are not the only club interested in Jullien as he has been linked with teams in France as well.
