There were a lot of expectations when Celtic signed Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers last summer. Many believed that he was ready to start for the club already but the general consensus was that he was at least going to make a solid contribution considering the Hoops’ struggles at left-back over the past several years.

That has not turned out to be the case. Scales struggled to break into Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the majority of the season, with the manager preferring to go with either Greg Taylor or Josip Juranovic at left-back.

Now, Aberdeen have completed a loan move for Scales. The Irish youngster will be hoping to make an impact for the Dons.

Interestingly though, there does not appear to be any mention of any clause in Aberdeen’s loan deal, either in the club’s official statement or in an update tweeted out by Anthony Joseph:

Can Scales prove to be a success at Aberdeen?

Scales was a standout during his time at Shamrock Rovers and was certainly expected to be ready to make the jump to the next level.

That has not happened at Celtic till now, but that does not mean that it cannot happen at any other club.

Aberdeen might be the perfect club for him to do that. They are hoping to bounce back from a terrible campaign and as a result, there might be the chance for Scales to get regular playing time and show what he is capable of.

Also, with Aberdeen not appearing to have any option at the moment, the loan move seems to favour Celtic. If Scales manages to shine away on loan, the Hoops will have a good player on their hands.

On the other hand, Celtic are expected to bring in another left-back this summer to provide competition to Taylor.
