Artur Boruc is one of the best goalkeepers that Celtic have had since the turn of the century if not the very best. When on top form, the Polish star was truly one of the best shot-stoppers in the game and it is actually a big surprise that he never got a move to one of the European giants after departing Parkhead, even though he had been linked with the likes of AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Barcelona at different points in his career.

At the end of the day, Boruc has enjoyed a wonderful career though and can hold his head high. Now, at 42 years of age, he will finally be hanging his gloves up for good.

The Legia Warsaw goalkeeper will play the last game of his career this July, in poetic fashion, in a friendly against Celtic, a club where he still enjoys cult hero status despite having left more than a decade ago.

And it is pretty clear that Celtic are close to his heart as well. When asked whether it was the perfect match for his farewell while speaking with Legia Warsaw’s official website, he said:

“Exactly, a very accurate statement. I will play the last game in my career in the colors of Legia against Celtic, whom I also support in some way – it is a club very close to me, where I spent great years. Such a match is a very nice initiative on the part of Legia, a really good ending to my adventure.”

Boruc makes Celtic admission as he closes in on retirement

Boruc was truly a brilliant goalkeeper for Celtic during his five seasons with the club, from 2005 to 2010, having been brought in from Legia Warsaw.

During that period of time, he would continuously be linked with a move away from Parkhead, but for one reason or another, it did not end up happening.

He would ultimately leave to join Fiorentina, have spells in England with Southampton and Bournemouth, before finally returning to Legia Warsaw, where he will retire.

Boruc also represented the Poland national team for over a decade and it would be an understatement to say that he had a good career. As he finally hangs up his gloves, we can only wish him the best for what is to come in the future and thank him for everything that he did for Celtic.
