Celtic want to sign Manchester United-linked free agent

Celtic are in need of strengthening in a few positions this summer although they do not need a rebuild like last time around. The club will be looking to defend the Scottish Premiership next season while also making their return to main stage Champions League football after many years. One of those areas,, which need reinforcements, could be between the posts, with Vasilis Barkas leaving on loan to join Dutch club FC Utrecht.

Barkas had struggled at Celtic since joining in the summer of 2020 in a big move from AEK Athens. Joe Hart has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Hoops since joining from Tottenham Hotspur.

While Hart has done an admirable job between the posts and as a leader, one also has to admit that he is not a long-term solution for the club as he is 35 years of age. There are also some questions about whether he is the right fit for the style of football that Ange Postecoglou wants his side to play.

Thus, Celtic could be in need of a new goalkeeper this summer, in order provide competition to Hart for the first-team spot. And as reported by the Daily Mail, Benjamin Siegrist has emerged as a candidate to replace Barkas.

Celtic identify Manchester United-linked free agent as candidate to replace Barkas

Siegrist is a free agent right now, having left Dundee United at the end of his contract. He has been one of the most highly rated goalkeepers in Scotland for a long time.

Celtic themselves have been linked with Siegrist for a while, as have the Rangers. But stunningly, the rumours have even linked Manchester United with a move for the Swiss goalkeeper in recent times.

Thus, if Celtic are able to sign him this summer it would be a major coup on the part of the Hoops.
