Portuguese media give update on Jota to Celtic problem

It is pretty clear that Celtic want to sign Jota on a permanent basis after he enjoyed a brilliant spell on loan at Parkhead from Benfica. The Portuguese winger was one of the best players in Ange Postecoglou’s side last season and played a major part in them winning the Premiership and Scottish League Cup double. As a result, fans are hoping that the 23-year-old has a long-term future at the club.

Celtic are believed to have an option to buy included in Jota’s loan deal of a transfer fee around €7.5 million.

Last week, rumours had picked up pace that the move was close but nothing has taken place yet. And there have been some suggestions that the hold up could be due to the sell on clause that Benfica want. But it does not look like that is the case after all.

As reported by A Bola, that figure was already provided in the loan agreement. Benfica will retain a 30 percent sell on clause for Jota, if Celtic did trigger the €7.5 million option to buy.

Portuguese media shed light on Jota to Celtic transfer hold up

It is safe to say that all signs recently have pointed towards Celtic getting a deal done for Jota this summer. And while the hold up might make fans a bit nervous, till now, there does not seem to be any cause for real concern that the move won’t happen.

If Celtic are indeed able to sign Jota on a permanent basis, it would be a major boost on the part of the club. He has been one of the best players in Scotland since arriving at Parkhead.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jota has scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists in 40 appearances for Celtic.

It is not only his effectiveness that makes him an important player for the club but his overall ability as well, and he brings something very different to the table for Celtic.
