Celtic are expected to make a few additions to their squad in the upcoming transfer window. While a full scale rebuild like last summer is no longer required, Ange Postecoglou could do with reinforcements in a few positions with the Scottish Premiership title to defend and main stage UEFA Champions League football returning to Parkhead after many years.

Celtic will be hoping that they can make Cameron Carter-Vickers’ loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur permanent this summer. There have been positives rumours regarding that in recent days and there is a feeling that it could very well happen. They are believed to have an option to buy, which will see them pay an initial £6 million transfer fee but it could rise up to £10 million with add-ons.

Carter-Vickers has been a rock at the back for Celtic this season. Defence had been viewed as a weakness for the club for a while but the United States international star has played a major part in shoring up things at the back for the Hoops.

Even then, the Hoops might need to bring in another centre-back to the club. Chris Sutton believes that Christopher Jullien will be leaving. The Celtic hero wrote in his Daily Record column:

There’s still some positions to fill, including centre back – even if Carter-Vickers gets done as it looks like Christopher Jullien will be going.

The Frenchman clearly isn’t Postecoglou’s cup of tea given the fact he’s been nowhere near the side despite being fit from the turn of the year.

Celtic shelled out a transfer fee around £7 million to sign Jullien from Toulouse in the summer of 2019, which immediately made him one of the most expensive signings in the history of the club.

He did have a very promising first season in the Hoops though, even scoring the Scottish League Cup final-winning goal against the Rangers. It is in his second season that the problems would begin.

Even early on in the campaign, Jullien had struggled with fitness problems. He did make his return to the pitch, only to suffer a long-term injury after colliding with the post while making a goal-line clearance. That ended up keeping him out of action for over a year.

He made his return earlier this year but has made only one appearance, off the bench, for the senior side since then. Thus, Jullien leaving Celtic this summer would not come as a surprise to anyone.
