Celtic linked with surprise summer move for striker

Celtic have two great strikers in their ranks right now in the form of Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis. The Japanese star has taken Scottish football by storm ever since he arrived last summer and has been an absolute standout for the Hoops. On the other hand, the Greek forward endured a frustrating start at Parkhead, struggling with both form and injuries, but has come into his own and even finished as the Premiership’s top scorer.

One Celtic striker who has not been able to make much of an impact is Albian Ajeti. He was brought in in what is believed to be a £5 million move from West Ham United in the summer of 2020 but has not been able to get it going for the Hoops.

Thus, many expect the club to try and find Ajeti a new home in the summer and it would not be a surprise if they brought in another striker to replace the Swiss international. But, the latest rumour surrounding the forward situation at Celtic is a bit surprising.

As reported by GHANAsoccernet, Celtic are set to let Ajeti leave in the summer and make an offer for Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo as his replacement.

Celtic linked with surprise striker move this summer

Now, individually, both of these rumours have done the rounds already. But they do not make a lot of sense together.

Celtic are not expected to get an offer anywhere near the reported £5 million transfer fee that they shelled out to sign Ajeti from West Ham United a couple of years back. On the other hand, it is believed that it would take something around £15 million for Bristol City to consider letting him leave.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Semenyo scored 8 goals and provided 12 assists in 32 appearances this season.

Clubs from the Premier League are also interested in him and it is hard to see Celtic shell out a huge transfer fee to sign a striker, a position that does not lead a lot of help.
