3 Serie A players Celtic should try to sign this summer

With every passing week, the 2021/22 season is inching closer to its end. A six-point lead at the top of the table has given a much-needed advantage to Celtic. Ange Postecoglou’s men know they have a lot left to play for, and although the domestic treble is now a lost cause, a domestic double seems very much within reach.

After all the drama of the season, however, all eyes will go back to the summer transfer window, where every club across the continent will be looking to strengthen their squad.

Surely, the Rangers will be plotting their next moves as it appears that they are set to lose the Premiership title race to Celtic.

And thus, it becomes important for Celtic as well to experience a successful transfer window so as not to fall behind their Glasgow rivals, who have stunned the world by reaching the Europa League final.

3 players that Celtic should consider signing from Serie A this summer

Rangers took everyone by surprise when they completed a loan move for Aaron Ramsey from Juventus in January. That move has not proven to much of a success as the Welshman has struggled with injuries. But there are some Serie A players that Celtic should have their eyes on this summer:

Maya Yoshida

A former Premier League veteran with Southampton, Maya Yoshida has been performing at the highest level of European football for many years now. Having made over 150 appearances for the Saints, he Joined Sampdoria on a loan deal in January 2020.

With the Serie A club retaining the Japanese star’s services in the following summer by signing him on a permanent deal, the move marked the end of Yoshida’s run in the top flight of English football.

With the defensive prowess and experience that he had garnered over the years in England, he was destined to thrive in Italy. Since joining Sampdoria, Yoshida has proven to be colossal at times in their defence.

The 33-year-old’s current contract at the Genoa-based club expires this summer though, meaning he could be a free agent. And Celtic could give the idea of landing Yoshida in the summer a thought.

Given that Celtic’s current squad has four Japanese stars in Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Kyogo Furuhashi, it might not be a bad idea to go for the centre-back to add some experience in defence.
