Signing Jota on a permanent basis is expected to be near the top of Celtic’s summer wishlist. The Portuguese winger was brought in on a season-long loan from Benfica in the previous summer transfer window and it has proven to be an inspired move on the part of the Hoops. He has become a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s team and played a big role as they close in on the Premiership title.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jota has scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists in 37 appearances for the club. Those are brilliant numbers for a winger. And it is not just his effectiveness that has been impressive but his overall play as well.
It is expected that Celtic would want to make Jota’s stay permanent and they do have an option to buy included in the loan deal believed to be around €7.5 million.
The big question has been though whether Jota would want to stay on at Celtic. One cannot discount the lure of wanting to play for his boyhood club Benfica or the fact that he has been linked with Premier League clubs recently. But here appears to be some good news for the Hoops.
Massive update on Celtic’s permanent move for Jota
As tweeted out by Ekrem Konur, Jota absolutely does not want to leave and Celtic believe that they will reach a deal with Benfica.
It goes without saying that this is a welcome boost for Celtic. Jota leaving at this point of time would come as a major blow for the Hoops and would leave them in need of signing another winger. Of course, there is always a risk involved when signing a new player and whether the move will work out or not. On the other hand, the Portuguese star has already proven himself.
Let’s see if Celtic are indeed able to sign Jota this summer from Benfica on a permanent basis. All the signs are pointing in the right direction though.
