Whether Celtic end up winning the Premiership title or not, this has to be a very successful campaign for the club considering the circumstances coming into it. Jota is someone who has been a standout for Celtic this season. But he is only on a season-long loan from Benfica at the moment, even though the Hoops have an option to buy included in the deal. Till now, the discussion had been between whether he would want to remain at Parkhead or return to his boyhood club. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jota has scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists in 36 appearances for Celtic this season.

While his form since the turn of the year might have been inconsistent, overall, he has been one of the best players in Scotland this season.

Rumours have suggested that the option to buy that Celtic have in the loan deal with Benfica is a transfer fee in the range of £6 million to £6.5 million. While that would make him one of the most expensive signings in the history of the club, the Hoops are believed to be prepared to shell out that kind of a fee to sign him on a permanent basis.

Ultimately though, it looks like it will all come down to Jota and what he wants to do next in his career, whether it is staying at Celtic, returning to Benfica or try his hand in the Premier League for a club like Fulham.

One thing that he could get at Celtic and Benfica, which he won’t at Fulham, is the chance to play in the Champions League. And that could potentially turn out to be vital in any decision he makes.
