Celtic vs Rangers status confirmed amid fixture change request

Celtic are set to take on the Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final this weekend at Hampden Park in what will be the fourth Glasgow Derby of the season. The Hoops hold the advantage over the Ibrox side till now, having won two of them while their rivals have won one. They are scheduled to face each other one more time after this as well, which is scheduled to be at Parkhead in May.

There has been some confusion around that fixture though, as the Rangers have been successful in making the semi-finals of the Europa League after getting a 3-2 aggregate win over SC Braga.

Following the game, the Rangers have requested the league body to rearrange upcoming fixtures, in order to help the Ibrox side in their preparation for their games against RB Leipzig.

It is not the Celtic game at Parkhead that they are looking to reschedule though. As reported by the Daily Record, the SPFL have kicked off moves to bring forward the Rangers’ game against Motherwell next Sunday. It remains to be seen how things play out.

Celtic vs Rangers at Parkhead will not be moved

If the Motherwell vs Rangers game remains where it is, it will give RB Leipzig a little under a day more to prepare for the Europa League semi-finals against Van Bronckhorst’s side.

For Celtic though, the important thing is that the game at Parkhead will remain exactly where it is scheduled. And that will represent a very tough run of games for the Rangers, who will have to play a Glasgow Derby in between the two legs of their Europa League semi-finals against RB Leipzig.

Celtic cannot afford to be distracted by what is going on at Ibrox though as they have a lot on their own plates at the moment, with a treble still on. Their next target has to be the Scottish Cup semi-final.
