Celtic have made tremendous strides in the right direction this season, especially considering the circumstances that they faced coming into the campaign. The club appointed Ange Postecoglou as manager after a long chase for Eddie Howe did not bear any result. The squad had to undergo a major overhaul as well, as the Hoops have signed 17 new players over the past couple of transfer windows. On the other hand, a number of key stars have departed Parkhead.

Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup, are in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, where they will face the Rangers this weekend, and are leading the Premiership title race by 6 points. The club had finished 25 points behind the Ibrox side and trophyless last season.

Thus, the manager and the players deserve a lot of credit for the incredible turnaround in such a short span of time. And one player who has been a particular standout is Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is currently on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic do have an option to buy included in the loan deal though and Pete O’Rourke believes that it will be one of Postecoglou’s priorities to sign Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis. As reported by GiveMeSport, the journalist said:

“I’m sure Celtic will be hoping to tie this deal up as soon as possible.

“They’ll want it done before Premier League clubs could maybe come in and offer more money for Carter-Vickers.

“I think it will be one of Postecoglou’s top priorities to get this deal done.”

What would it take for Celtic to sign Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur?

It is not going to be easy for Celtic to sign Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur even though he is not expected to have a first-team future in Antonio Conte’s side.

Rumours have suggested that a permanent move for the United States international would take an initial transfer fee around £6 million but it could ultimately rise to a figure around £10 million after add-ons. If that is indeed the case then it would break Celtic’s current transfer record.

But, not signing Carter-Vickers could be a major mistake on the part of Celtic. There is argument to be made that he has been the club’s player of the season and the improvement that this side has made defensively is unquestionable.

There have been suggestions that Carter-Vickers himself is open to staying at Parkhead despite there being interest from other Premier League sides. And if Celtic are able to qualify for the Champions League by winning the Premiership, one would expect them to make a move.
