Stiliyan Petrov delivers special praise to Celtic star

Celtic have done a tremendous job when it comes to signing players this season. The club were facing a huge task in the summer, as key players like Odsonne Edouard, Scott Brown, Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie and quite a few others left Parkhead, leaving them in need of a major squad overhaul. As a result, this campaign was believed to be a transitional one for the club.

But the new players have come in and done a brilliant job, to the point that Celtic have already won the Scottish League Cup, are in the Scottish Cup semi-finals and are leading the Premiership title race by six points with five league games left to be played.

One new signing who has enjoyed a bit of a turnaround in recent weeks is Daizen Maeda, who put in quite a display against the Rangers at Ibrox and then backed it up with a man of the match performance against St Johnstone at the weekend.

Speaking after the 7-0 win, as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Stiliyan Petrov told Celtic TV about Maeda:

“He just did not stop running. He fully deserved it [man of the match] and he has a smile on his face. He does the work and he did not stop. We seen a couple of situations in the first and second half when the team lost the ball, he was the first to react.

“He just wanted everybody to follow his lead, This is the way you lead – from the front. You do not let the opposition rest and that’s what he does.

“And he makes sure he’s always there and he makes sure that he tries to get there as quickly as he can to close the opposition.”

Petrov gives special praise to Celtic’s Maeda

It is safe to say that Maeda is starting to show what he is capable of. The Japanese star did not enjoy the best of starts at Parkhead but is gradually becoming an undroppable member of this side.

It is not just what he is bringing to the pitch in terms of goals or assists. Maeda is absolutely vital up top when it comes to setting the tone for Ange Postecoglou’s high intensity style of football.

Maeda just never stops working for the team and if he can start finding the back of the net with the consistency that he showed in his last campaign with Yokohama F. Marinos, then he could be the best player in all of Scotland.
